The California Privacy Protection Agency has fined Accurate Append, Inc., a Washington-based data broker, $55,400 for failing to register and pay the required annual fee under the Delete Act.

The case highlights a continued enforcement sweep of data broker compliance. Accurate Append only registered after the CPPA Enforcement Division contacted the company during its investigation. Along with the fine, the firm accepted injunctive terms — including covering attorney fees and costs if future non-compliance occurs.

The Delete Act requires all data brokers to register annually with the California Data Broker Registry.

Registration fees fund the upcoming Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform  — a first-of-its-kind tool allowing consumers to direct all registered data brokers to delete their personal data with a single request (launch planned for 2026).

Failing to comply exposes companies to civil penalties and reputational damage.

This action follows a string of CPPA enforcement moves, including:

✅ A $345,178 fine against fashion retailer Todd Snyder, Inc. for CCPA violations.

✅ A $632,500 fine against American Honda Motor Co. — one of the largest in CCPA history.

✅ Enforcement against Background Alert and National Public Data, Inc., both tied to severe privacy violations.

This is another example of companies failing to comply — or forgetting they need to comply. The CPPA is actively hunting for firms that ignore CCPA and the Delete Act. Businesses cannot underestimate these requirements. Every organization dealing with personal data must stay ahead of these rules, or enforcement will catch up.
